I don't like doing Logo Rage on this blog. But I noticed the new* English National Opera logo in the wild for the first time today.
It's strange. They've changed it from this.
There's an article about it on Creative Review. The designers say, "That logo was really cherished within the design community, and when you’re working with cultural clients – particularly brands that have been around for a long time – you don’t want to throw the baby out with the bathwater and get rid of something that has a lot of brand equity.”
I don't really understand that if I'm honest. The old one really conveys the expression of loud operatic singing! A huge mouth opening! The new one has lost any emotion and just feels like a watered down version. Somehow more conservative.
*New in 2015. It's 2017 now, so I'm about 2 years behind. Cutting edge design blogging as ever over here. Back to not reading books.
