Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire

Dayinthephotolife

So that was the day that was. Interesting wasn't it? Yes? No?

That was a typical day for me in so much as nothing typical happened, which is typical. I suppose my day can be very varied because as a Company Director as well as a designer I get to / have to do lots of other things as well as designing. I'm certainly not desk bound.

When I started this I wasn't trying to prove anything I just wanted to see a true day in my working life. However exciting, however mundane. These Day In The Life Things are almost always hackneyed, unfunny, devoid of all humility and down right made up. That wasn't. That was 13th December 2006.

If you're from Blue Peter and you're reading this in 2050, I've grouped the whole story under a category called Day In The Life. Category, I know, that's what we used to call them in 2006.

6.00

Two glasses of mulled wine later, that's it. I'm off home. That was an interesting day, wasn't it?

3.50

In The Hospital. Mulled wine and mince pies.

3.30

Have dealt with various emails, scheduled another meeting, spoken to the bank and one of our suppliers.

A client has just turned up and we're now going for a Christmas cup of tea. Or maybe something stronger.

2.20

Someone is here from Arjo Wiggins. They make paper. I've skipped that meeting, all that technical talk is a bit much for me.

April has just run out of the meeting room with all our obsolete paper swatches.

Sending costs over.

2.10

Tea made.

Ok folks. Seeing as you're still awake you can find the Flickr stuff here. I've just opened my post and found a lovely sprig of mistletoe from innocent. Ours is pinned above the desk of the best looking single girl in the office.

Another parcel has arrived containing a book by HG Wells called The Open Conspiracy.

Client has just rung, I need to send the costs over and we've arranged to meet on Tuesday. In Brussels.

1.40

Making the tea.

1.30

Back in office.

Lunch from Diana's of course. Will now trawl through emails and read a few specially chosen blogs. And  BBC News of course.

Expect quality of posting to improve dramatically with the addition of always on broadband and a qwerty keyboard.

12.20

Not enough length of journey to do anything constructive. Remember 3 people I need to email. Wonder about having a quick nap.

11.50

Finished meetings. On the train back to our lovely studio. Not much to do directly relating to meetings this afternoon. Need lunch soon though. This must be a very exciting day for you, my beloved listeners.

9.30

First meeting of the day. In Maidenhead. Discussing projects for next year with Claire.

9.00

A correspondent tells me Flickr is top left. Not top right. Bloody internet.

8.30

Waiting for a train down the M4rketing corridor.  Breakfast is a bacon butty and a Fast Tractor. In a thrilling update I'm also sending pictures to my Flickr. You can see that by clicking on the about bit, top right.

7.30

Heading to Paddington to meet our Account Manager and catch train. There's a nice colour to the morning sky.

A Day In The Life Of A Graphic Designer

You lucky people, today is the day, chosen by you, that Noisy Decent Graphics will follow a graphic designer for one whole day. There is no big point to this, no hidden meaning. Hopefully it will give you an insight into what it's like to be a graphic designer. That's all.

Any day in the life of a Graphic Designer

Right then. Hope this is interesting. Worry it won't be. Here goes.

For a while now I've been meaning to blog a 'day in the life'. I'm fully aware most of these things are hideous lies (anyone remember the Mark Wnek one for the Sunday Times all those years ago?) and I'm desperate to avoid that. So I'm gonna do two things to try keep it realistic.

1. It will start when I get to work and finish when I leave work.
There will be no mention of my driver, nanny, stylist or the fact that Kate Moss gets the same Hovercraft as me. There will be nothing about me drinking with Winston Churchill in the Groucho. I'll try and make it as boring as I can. Opened Photoshop. Looked at BBC website. Photoshop crashed. Force quit Photoshop. Looked at BBC website. Etc etc.

2. You get to pick the date.
One of the problems with these 'day in the life things' is picking the day. You see my job is quite exciting. Sometimes I might be drinking with Kate Moss and Winston Churchill in the Groucho. So that puts a lot of pressure on the choice of date. Have I picked this date because it makes me sound great etc etc? So to alleviate that I'm gonna let you pick the date. Randomly.

I'm writing this on Thursday 16th November and I've timed it to go live at 01.01AM on the 1st December. The dates I've chosen below are dates that currently (on the 16th November) I have nothing in the diary for. So when I'm writing this, I don't know what I'm going to be doing on that day. Crazy eh? I know, I'm full of bright ideas like that.

The dates are: 4th December, 7th December, 12th December, 13th December or 19th December. The first comment below is the date I'll choose.

Go ahead. Pick my day.
